Jai Mata Di! ЁЯЩП

The fifth day of Navratri symbolizes the supreme pinnacle of Motherhood and Valor. On this day, a mother is not just an embodiment of affection, but she becomes the First Guru who creates the universe's greatest commander. Today, we worship that supreme form of Adishakti who trained Lord Kartikeya (Skanda) in weaponry and cosmic knowledge to protect Dharma.

In the Sanatan tradition, this form of Maa Skandamata carries the most profound message for today's society: a mother's true duty is not merely to provide comforts to her child, but to raise an invincible warrior who can crush the head of every Tarkasur (adharma and life's challenges). Let us dive deep into the authentic history of Maa Skandamata and the yogic secrets of the Vishuddha Chakra in this special PanditVerse edition.

Skandamata: Origin of the Name and Cosmic Form

Lord Kartikeya, the eldest son of Lord Shiva and Mata Parvati, is known in the scriptures as Skanda due to his position as the commander of the gods. Being the mother of this immensely powerful child, the fifth form of the Goddess earned the name Skandamata.

Divine Visual Form:

  • Chaturbhuja and Padmasana: The Goddess has four arms. In her upper two hands, she holds fully bloomed lotus flowers, symbolizing the complete awakening of consciousness. She herself is seated on a lotus, hence she is also called Padmasana Devi.
  • Abhaya Mudra: One of her hands is always in the Abhaya Mudra, a gesture that grants fearlessness and blessings to her devotees.
  • Shadanana Skanda: In her lap sits Lord Skanda in his infant form. Lord Skanda has six faces (Shadanana), representing his supreme knowledge and vision across all six directions (the four cardinal directions, sky, and the underworld).
  • Mount: The Goddess's primary mount is a majestic lion, signifying indomitable courage.

The Puranic Epic: The Arrogance of Tarkasur and the Birth of the Commander

The Shiva Mahapurana (Rudra Samhita - Kumar Khand) details the birth of Lord Skanda as a magnificent cosmic phenomenon.

After the self-immolation of Mata Sati, Lord Shiva embraced asceticism and went into a deep meditative trance (Samadhi). Meanwhile, a cruel and cunning demon named Tarkasur performed severe penance and obtained a boon from Lord Brahma that he could only be killed by the Son of Shiva. Thinking that the ascetic Shiva would never marry again, Tarkasur considered himself immortal. He conquered the heavens and imprisoned the gods.

To save the universe, Mata Parvati performed intense austerities, awakened Lord Shiva from his Samadhi, and married him. The union of Shiva and Shakti produced a supreme cosmic seed (Tej) so intensely hot that the entire universe could not bear its heat.

The Contribution of Agni, Ganga, and the Krittikas:

The Fire God (Agni Dev) first held this Shiva-Tej, but even he could not withstand the temperature. The divine energy was then passed to Goddess Ganga. The waves of the Ganges deposited this cosmic energy into Sharavan (a special forest of reeds). In that very forest, from the combined energy of Shiva and Shakti, a highly radiant six-faced infant was born.

Six celestial nymphs (Krittikas) from the Milky Way nursed and raised the child, which is why he was named Kartikeya. When the child was handed over to Mata Parvati, she took the form of Skandamata and taught her son all the cosmic weapons, the Vedas, and battle strategies. This very Lord Skanda later led the massive army of the gods, slew Tarkasur, and liberated the three worlds from his terror.

Yoga Science: The Secret of Vishuddha Chakra (Throat Chakra) and Vak Siddhi

The fifth day of Navratri is highly significant for yoga practitioners seeking Vak Siddhi (the power of manifesting spoken words into reality) and wanting to walk the path of absolute truth. Today is the day to awaken the Vishuddha Chakra.

Location and Significance: This chakra is located in the spine, directly behind the throat. It resembles a lotus with 16 petals.

  • Power of Speech (Vak Ojas): When the Vishuddha Chakra is awakened, a person's voice gains a magnetic attraction. Whatever they speak is heard with deep attention. Activating this chakra is essential to becoming a true Leader in society.
  • Destruction of Deceit: The worship of Maa Skandamata washes away all the impurities and deceit from a seeker's mind. They gather the courage to speak the truth in every situation, making their life as transparent as an open book.

Navratri Day 5 Puja Vidhi: Vedic Rules and Mahabhog

1. The Sattvic Auspicious Color (The Color of Supreme Knowledge)

Today, one should wear Yellow, Golden, or Light Blue clothes. Yellow is the supreme symbol of Guru (Jupiter), knowledge, Sattvic nature, and spiritual energy. Both Lord Skanda (Kartikeya) and Maa Skandamata are extremely fond of the color yellow.

2. Sacred Offerings (Flowers)

Use Yellow Roses, Yellow Lotuses, or Champa flowers in the worship of the Goddess. While praying, one must definitely meditate upon the infant form of Lord Kartikeya, as the worship of Maa Skandamata is not considered complete without remembering her son.

3. Vedic Mahabhog (Banana Offering)

Offering Bananas to Maa Skandamata is considered highly auspicious today.
Ayurvedic and Sanatani Perspective: During the month of Chaitra (Spring season), the body temperature begins to rise. Bananas provide natural electrolytes (Potassium) and a cooling effect to the body. Offering this Sattvic fruit and consuming it as Prasad cures physical ailments and keeps the seeker in excellent health.

Proven Dhyana Mantra and Navdurga Stuti

While worshipping the Goddess, keep your spine straight, focus your attention on your throat, and clearly chant these proven mantras:

Dhyana Mantra of Maa Skandamata:

Sinhasanagata Nityam Padmanchita Karadvaya.
Shubhadastu Sada Devi Skandamata Yashasvini.

(Meaning: May the illustrious Maa Skandamata, who is eternally seated on a throne (and a lotus), and whose two hands are adorned with lotus flowers, always be propitious and bring welfare to us.)

Navdurga Stotra (Prayer Mantra):

Ya Devi Sarvabhuteshu Maa Skandamata Rupena Samsthita.
Namastasyai Namastasyai Namastasyai Namo Namah.

The Message of Maa Skandamata for Today's Generation

The Sanatan tradition never makes us weak or escapist. Maa Skandamata reminds us that motherhood is not just about fulfilling a child's stubborn demands. The highest duty of a mother is to recognize the Shakti hidden within her and impart such values and knowledge to her children that they can boldly face the adharma and negativity (Tarkasur) prevalent in society.

It is only when we connect with our Sanatan roots that we can awaken the invincible Skanda sitting within us.

Jai Maa Skandamata! ЁЯЪй
