What is this Puja?
The Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Udyapan Puja is a highly auspicious and significant Vedic ritual performed to mark the successful completion of the Ganesh Chaturthi fasting vow (Vrat). It is a vital ceremony to seek the ultimate grace of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles.
Why is it Performed?
According to ancient Hindu scriptures, no fasting vow yields its complete spiritual merit unless it is concluded with a proper Udyapan ceremony. Without it, the Vrat is considered incomplete. This puja is primarily performed to eradicate obstacles (Vighna) from one's life, ensure success in all endeavors, and invite everlasting peace, wealth, and prosperity into the family.
The Puja Vidhi (Procedure)
The ritual traditionally begins with the invocation (Avahana) and Pran Pratishtha of Lord Ganesha. This is followed by the Shodashopachara Puja (16-step worship) accompanied by the chanting of powerful Vedic mantras. The ceremony includes the recitation of the Ganapati Atharvashirsha, a sacred Havan (fire ritual), and Purnahuti. Special offerings such as Modak, Durva grass, and red flowers are made to please the deity. The ritual concludes with Aarti, seeking forgiveness for any shortcomings, and offering food to Brahmins.
